Black Milk has been producing their iconic Galaxy leggings and skintight dresses for years ($75 AUD) and has built a cult following around their limited edition patterns and distinctive branding. It wasn’t until Christopher Kane’s resort collection, however, when the Milky Way hit the mainstream. High fashion met the cosmos with a warm welcome, mesmerized by its hypnotic mix of colors, the quality digital images, as well as the mix of the nerdy and the stunning in the women who wear it. Proving that the trend had potential for more than shiny novelty legwear, Kane skillfully applied the print to chiffon biker jackets, dresses with a 1950s housewife-style cut, and ‘boyfriend’ tees, so that whatever the preferred piece, it was sure to be available in the cult cosmic cloth.
